Researchers at INB-UNAM sequenced and analyzed RNA populations of mouse and chick during the early stages of embryonic brain development and discovered approximately 3000 genes that regulate telencephalon development. Many of chromatin-associated epigenetic and transcription regulators showed high expression and previous studies associated them to autism, intellectual disabilities, and mental retardation. These observations suggest a link between telencephalic development and autism spectrum disorders.
